SUMMARY:Aevolum Cinema Presents The Choices That Shape Us
DESCRIPTION:Aevolum Cinema Presents is a touring programme of award-winning short films — selected from BAFTA-qualifying festivals and screened on three continents\, but hidden gems that most audiences will never have the chance to see anywhere else. Each evening is a curated 60-minute programme built around a single theme\, bringing together four films that speak to each other in ways that linger long after the lights come up. These are honest\, uncompromising films — made by independent voices\, recognised by the world’s most rigorous festivals. \nOn 30 June\, Leatherhead Theatre hosts The Choices That Shape Us — four films about the decisions people make\, the lives those decisions create\, and what we carry when there is no going back. An evening that stays with you. \n  \nYakka \nJack Shepherd  ·  Australia  ·  15 min \nMoral thriller — who do you become? \nTwo brothers raised by a violent father. One becomes him. One resists. A searing portrait of what we inherit — and whether we can refuse it. \n  \nA Great Love  \nAisha Schliessler  ·  UK  ·  14 min \nQuiet devotion — a life given to beauty \nA sculptor’s twenty-year love affair with horses in bronze. No drama\, no conflict — just a man and the thing he chose to dedicate his life to. \n  \nWhen You Left Me \nJevan Chowdhury  ·  UK  ·  7 min \nDrama — love at breaking point \nA father and his young son on the tube. The boy won’t cooperate. The father reaches his limit and makes a choice he immediately regrets. He runs back. \n  \nA Memory Owed  \nMartin Hemingway-Moseley  ·  UK  ·  29 min \nWar drama — a debt carried for 80 years \nA WWII veteran returns to the airfield where he made the hardest choice of his life. With him\, the young carer who helped him get there. A quiet reckoning with the past. \n  \nQ&A \nJevan is an interdisciplinary storyteller. A native Londoner responsible for engaging over 50 million people through his dance-docu-series Moving Cities\, examining the identity of cities through dance. He is a passionate editor and documentarian with an established international artist career. Working with brands including the United Nations\, Barnardo’s and KPMG\, his projects include a 220-metre life-size photograph for Hong Kong Ballet permanently installed in MTR Wan Chai\, Hong Kong. In recent years Jevan has been developing a slate of short drama in different languages. SUMMARY:An Evening with Mel Giedroyc
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with Mel Giedroyc launching her brand-new novel The Comeback.  Mel will be in conversation with comedian and friend\, Tim Vine. After the interview Mel will be available to sign copies of the book. \n  \nAbout The Comeback \n  \nThe brand new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author Mel Giedroyc is a funny\, big-hearted story of second chances. \n  \nSometimes life surprises you with an encore… \nTwenty years ago\, aspiring performer Gill Piper boarded a bus out of Leatherhead with a spring in her step and stars in her eyes. Things didn’t quite pan out… Back home again\, Gill finds much has changed. Young Lights\, the youth theatre group which coaxed her out of her shell\, is no more. The theatre itself\, once the heartbeat of the community\, now feels like a has-been; Gill can relate. When Gill learns the theatre is approaching its hundredth year\, she decides to put on a spectacular anniversary show to give it a comeback and unite the town. She has just eight weeks\, but if she can persuade some shy newcomers to step into the spotlight\, it might just be possible. But Gill hasn’t counted on self-appointed Artistic Director and diva extraordinaire Carla Keswick\, who declares war. SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen: James McNeill Whistler
DESCRIPTION:In an era of great change and great beauty emerged the character of James McNeill Whistler. Considered by some to be one of the great innovators of 19th century art\, he was a contemporary of the Impressionists\, much admired by Van Gogh and Manet. Boldly experimental and famously witty\, Whistler disrupted the strict conventions of Victorian society in pursuit of a new cult of beauty\, creating “art for art’s sake” and earning himself a place in the history of great art. He found a parallel between painting and music\, and entitled many of his paintings “arrangements”\, “harmonies” and “nocturnes”\, emphasizing the importance of tonal harmony in his work. \nHis most famous painting\, Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (1871)\, commonly known as Whistler’s Mother\, is a revered and often parodied portrait of motherhood. It is arguably one of the most famous paintings in history and this film will unveil the artist behind the art. \nTate Britain is now holding the first major retrospective of Whistler in three decades. This blockbuster exhibition promises to reawaken the world to just how important Whistler is to art history\, uniting world-famous masterpieces with rarely seen works. Exhibition on Screen will bring these stunning works and the incredible story behind them to cinemas around the world while the exhibition is still running\, bringing this truly global artist to a global audience. This will be an unmissable chance to get to know this visually spectacular artist and the influence he has had on those who followed. \nMade in close collaboration with Tate Britain. \nDirected by David Bickerstaff\nRunning Time: 1 Hour 30 Mins (There is no interval for this screening) \nTicket Prices\nAdult: £15.00 | Concession: £14.00 | Member: £13.00 | Groups 12+: £13.00 \nPlease note: A restoration fund of £1.50 per ticket will be charged in addition to the ticket price\, to assist with the cost of ongoing maintenance. \nDate & Times\n Tuesday 15th September\, 5:00 PM \n BOOK NOW!
