As a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in creating a warm and welcoming experience for everyone who visits. Whether you’re greeting audiences, helping at events, or supporting our café, your time and enthusiasm make a real difference.
Volunteering is also a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, and gain valuable experience in customer service, teamwork, and event support. No previous experience is necessary – just a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved. Training and support are provided, and you’ll be part of a dedicated team that shares a love of theatre and the arts.
By volunteering with The Leatherhead Theatre, you’ll help keep live theatre thriving in our community while making lasting friendships and enjoying the unique atmosphere of a working theatre.
All we ask is that volunteers are friendly team players who can commit to a minimum of two shifts per calendar month and are over the age of 18. Together, we can continue to bring unforgettable performances and experiences to audiences of all ages.
What’s involved?
Depending upon the volunteer role you wish to take up, the responsibilities may vary; however, general duties include:
- Meeting and greeting visitors
- Assisting and answering visitor queries or questions
- Ensuring appropriate licenses, rules and regulations are followed to maintain a safe space and environment for visitors
- Checking tickets and guiding visitors to their seats
- Having a good understanding of the building to assist with access requirements
- Assisting in emergency evacuations (full training to be provided)
- Collecting any rubbish at the interval and end of show, to ensure the foyer and venues remain clean and tidy

- Give a little of your time and enjoy an event on us! Volunteers receive a complimentary ticket per shift for cinema, event screenings or a selection of live shows, which can be used before or after their scheduled shift, but not while volunteering.

The different volunteer roles available:
Front of House
Most of our volunteers work front of house as stewards for our events. They are responsible for checking tickets, helping people to their seats and evacuating the performance spaces in the event of an emergency.
Heritage
Volunteers help us to manage our heritage centre. They undertake local historical research, help the public with their enquiries and keep our Archive Room organised.
Box Office
Our Box Office volunteers help us by selling tickets and answering queries. They work on our computerised box office system and are very good at keeping our customers happy.
Marketing
Volunteers in our marketing team help us in several different ways, including proofreading and distributing posters and leaflets.
Administration
We have lots of admin tasks that need to be done to keep The Leatherhead Theatre running efficiently. Some volunteers help us by managing specific projects or supporting us on an ad hoc basis with tasks such as collating customer feedback, updating spreadsheets, and working with the finance team.
Facilities
We want The Leatherhead Theatre to be a well-run and maintained place. Volunteers support our facilities team with tasks including cleaning, decorating, repairs and maintenance
Café
We are currently looking for friendly volunteers to help operate the tills or help as an assistant restocking the fridges, stock rotation and keeping the area tidy.
Fundraising
Volunteers play an important role in supporting our fundraising efforts.
Collect donations using collection buckets or contactless donation points.
Promote fundraising campaigns on social media and encourage friends and family to donate.
Seek prize donations from local businesses for raffles, auctions, or competitions.
Encourage Gift Aid (where applicable) by helping donors complete the necessary forms.
Share personal stories about why they volunteer to inspire others to support the cause
Thank donors and supporters, helping build long-term relationships and encouraging repeat donations.
